The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

New member and more shawls

Marianne joined us at our last Tuesday evening meeting. She wanted to get back into crocheting and chose our ministry to celebrate her sister's life after finally loosing her battle with breast cancer. When I talked to her last evening after the 5:15 Mass she told me she had already finished a beautiful pink shawl and had started on a purple one. Sounds like Marty and Wilma have some competition. Oh, Mary Beth and Jayne, she's from New Jersey!
Janette finished a "Marty-inspired" shawl a couple of weeks ago. She used the donated yarn that Wilma brought to a previous meeting. It is really pretty! When Father John is back from his travels this summer, I will ask him to come to a Thursday evening meeting after Mass and bless those shawls that have not as yet been blessed.

Janette's Shawl

Yesterday I dropped a blanket off at UNC Hospitals for Baby Liam, 8 days old. He was rushed to the hospital on Friday and was undergoing tests to determine a diagnosis and treatment.
