The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

The Belted Goat in Fearrington Village

The Belted Goat was the scene of a small group of smiling yarn lovers, sharing their stories along with their ideas for prayer shawls and yarn. Marty, Mary Beth, Chris, and Shelley (a new member) created quite a stir as they brought out their needles and bags of yarn. Our group seems to enjoy going the "road less traveled" -- designing our very own prayer shawls. We enjoyed collaborating before, during, and after lunch. We would like to meet again at Fearrington, although we don't have a date scheduled. If you would be free to join us around lunch in the future, please let me (Chris, the facilitator) know. I'll be sure you know when we have plans to do this again.
