The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

One of our own receives a shawl

We gathered in the library once again for our Thursday evening meeting on September 22. We welcomed three new members - Sheeba, Molly, and Natty. Before we all got busy with our needles, hooks, and yarn, Mary Beth presented Marty with a beautiful shawl she made just for her. Marty has had a rough few months and was very grateful for the beautiful shawl and the prayers it represented. We have only been together since the fall of 2010 - less than a year. In that short time, we have begun to realize how much we mean to each other and how much fuller our lives are because of each other. This is only the beginning.
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
