The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Can we do it? You betcha!

We have provided many prayer shawls/lapghans to members of our Newman community over this past year. Our Journal is a good reminder of the love, support, and prayers given to those experiencing joy and happiness as well as grief, sorrow, and suffering. Are we ready to reach out to others in the greater community? Yes, we are. We are ready to spread our love around. That was the overwhelming answer to this question at our recent gatherings.

There is an assisted living facility in the area whose residents would welcome our gifts of warmth made with love and prayers. Are we able to give around 35 of their residents the gift of a prayer shawl or lapghan? We will do our best. All we need is our faith in the Lord, needles and yarn, and nimble fingers. God will provide. We are bound together in one community of love, founded on the faith of God's love, knowing that His faith and love are everlasting.
