The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Newman's Ministry Fair Fall 2012

What a success for our Prayer Shawl Ministry! Ten people expressed interest in joining us including one young man!  Wouldn't that be neat?!!! I have already heard from seven of these folks who hope to join us at one of our next meetings. I've got name tags made and I even made a new snack sign-up sheet - I am ready for our Thursday evening meeting, September 6.

Thanks go out to those of you who spoke about our ministry at the Masses - Sue West, Mary Beth, Sheeba, and Kathryn. Your sharing sparked so much interest.

We had many compliments on our table at the fair. If you missed it, here is a photo of how it looked. Thank you, Judith, for helping me "woman" the table after the 5:30 PM Saturday evening liturgy. Thank you, Wilma and Jean, for handling the 9:00 AM crowd on Sunday morning and Sheeba and Marty, for being there after the 11:00 AM liturgy. And thank you, Susan and Carol, for covering the 7:00 PM student liturgy on Sunday evening. Send me some pix so I can post them here.

There was some interest in a trip to Charlotte for the Vogue Knitting Live show taking place September 20-23. Be sure to get back with me if you would like to go. Even if you are not a "yarn lover", this has the potential of being a really fun field trip.
