The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Our meeting plans

Our meetings for the rest of the year (that means November and December ... oh, my, it can't be that time of the year already!), have been scheduled. If you will notice, there is only one meeting scheduled at 5:30 in the Newman Library in November. We will have two meetings off campus on Tuesday and another one at The Goat on Thursday morning in November. We'll be celebrating Thanksgiving instead of meeting at Newman on Thursday, November 28. And soon it will be December and Christmas and Christmas break for the students at Carolina. Therefore, there will only be one meeting at Newman in December, the 5th.

We had a very good meeting last night at Newman. Our new members have added so much to the group. We are grateful for them. The peanut butter cookies got rave reviews. One of these days I will remember to make something without peanut butter. I separated our yarn stash and I'm hoping you all will take a peak and help yourselves to whatever you can use. We have had donations recently which I added to our "bargain bin." I have more yarn here at my house which I will add when we use more of our stash. There are lots of needles also and crochet hooks in the smaller container. Please help yourself.

We talked about the upcoming holidays and celebrating together as we did last January when we went to the 411 to send Sheeba off to Denmark. It was such an enjoyable evening. Let's plan on doing that for our December meeting, the eve of St. Nicholas. We could meet at 6:00 or 6:30 at Newman to go to a place of your choosing. If I don't hear from you, I'll be forced to choose and heaven help us! Of course, the 411 turned out to be a very good choice. Devon invited us to her place of employment, Glasshalfull, but I'm wondering if she might enjoy getting away from "work" for an evening and experiencing some other place. Of course, that means we'll have to put our needles and hooks down for just a little while and enjoy each other's company.

With that I leave you with a quote from Howard Thurman -

Don't ask yourself what the world needs.
Ask yourself what makes you come alive,
and go do that, because what the world needs
is people who have come alive.
