The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Our End of the Year Dinner

Our meeting on May 3 was cancelled due to the asbestos removal going on at Newman during this time. The Activity Center is closed and the offices have moved into the Church building. As an alternative, we decided to meet for an End-of-the-Year Celebration on Wednesday, May 16, 5:30 PM. We'll gather for dinner at the "411" on Franklin Street.

It has been a very full year and we will be starting again in the fall. We already have a craft sale and bake sale / fundraiser planned. All we need is a date. We will continue to create prayer shawls and prayer squares and work towards assisting the other ministries within our own faith community and beyond in whatever ways we are able, which is as yet to be decided. So, all you Newman Knitting Ninjas, grab your hooks and needles and . . . stay tuned . . .
