The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

There is going to be a baby shower at Newman - Another project to work on!

We all love to make prayer shawls and seem to be very creative in what we make. After all, a prayer shawl ministry provides prayer shawls for our community, right? Somehow, along with the many prayer shawls and lapghans we have provided over this past year, we have branched out and gotten involved in other projects at Newman and in Chapel Hill. We love yarn and we love to pray as we knit and crochet.

Recently we learned that Newman is having a baby shower for the benefit of Pregnancy Support Services. Could this be another project to get involved in? What could be more enjoyable than using our yarn for baby items for the baby shower! Yarn and patterns available for the asking. I will try to leave some yarn and patterns near our container in the library or contact me (Christine, facilitator) to make arrangements to get what you need. It is okay to have more than one thing on our needles (in fact it's even fun) -

* shawls/lapghans
* prayer squares
* 12 inch square for the small faith group prayer cloth
* baby booties, blankets, sweaters, hats

This is our way of praying for each other and all God's children.
