The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

The Gossman Passion

I have learned that there will be a presentation of The Gossman Passion at Newman on Saturday evening, March 23, Palm Sunday weekend. For those of you who might be new to Newman or have not yet been fortunate enough to have attended a performance, a little background ...

The Gossman Passion was written and produced by a graduate of UNC, Mike Garrigan, and dedicated to F. Joseph Gossman, the Bishop of the Raleigh Diocese for many years. It is described as "A new experience of the Passion of Jesus Christ." Taken from the Gospel of Matthew, it is a powerful, contemporary musical interpretation of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This outstanding musical was first presented at Newman on Palm Sunday 2005.

I am encouraging you all to attend and experience this magnificent performance.
