The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Yarn Bombing

Even though the air was rather cool in Southern Pines last Friday, March 22, the day was glorious with lots of sunshine. Marty and I walked leisurely down the street marveling at the creative yarn bombing. The trees were covered. In front of the "boat, tackle and bait" shop, there happened to be a boat with a fish on the end of a duck's fishing pole! Very creative!
Gone fishin'
Another one of our favorites was the tree dressed up in a dress!
It's "one-of-a-kind!
And some artwork added to the yarn (for pun lovers and cat lovers everywhere!)!
"Dances with Wool"

"That Darned Cat"
... and many more. Made me wonder ... hmm, what could the Newman Prayer Shawl Ministry "yarn bomb"?

Before and after lunch at Sweet Basil, we spent some time (Marty had to drag me out of there) at the most marvelous yarn store, Bella Filati. After wandering through the aisles of glorious yarn, we made our purchases and headed for home.
