The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

An Unexpected Visitor

Our new "shepherd", Father Michael Lasky, stopped in last week after the 5:00 PM liturgy while we were meeting in the library. What a delight! We all enjoyed meeting him and getting just a little bit better acquainted. He asked if we would be willing to have Newman post some of the pages from our journals on the Newman website. He was most impressed with our work and very supportive of all that we are doing.

In addition to "spreading the good news", he is spreading the word around that the Friary is looking for a cook. There will be five friars living there soon and they all have their "plates" full (no pun intended). Eating is important but time to cook is not an option. If you are aware of someone who might be able to help fill their plates, please let him know. In the meantime, all you good cooks out there, feel free to help the friars with good and tasty nourishment.
