We met for the last time before our summer break at my house. It was a potluck and the food was delicious. Fellowship was great! We invited the Missionaries for Marcos and were so pleased Dennis, Harriet, Gwen and Tom were able to join us. Dennis brought pictures from their trip.
We had also hoped to honor our long-time member, Wilma, at this meeting. She will be leaving us very soon to return to Buffalo (really? it's cold there!) after being in Chapel Hill for over 20 years. She feels a need to be closer to her children at this time in her life. Unfortunately, Wilma was unable to join us because of some health issues she was dealing with. Her smiling face and nimble fingers with those crochet hooks will be missed. However, she promised to remember us and will send us whatever she can as often as she can. Wilma crochets the most beautiful prayer squares we are privileged to give. We gave her a prayer shawl made with the yarn Father John brought us from Italy a while back (2012). Wilma, please know you will always be a part of our group no matter the distance between us.
Now, back to our meeting on May 14. We discussed fundraising for the Missionaries. They seem to have lit a bonfire under us. We started planning fundraisers we might hold throughout the year for them. Our first one was so successful. The experience generated so many ideas and ways we might be able to fund their trip this next year. We hope to have more bake sales throughout the year. In fact, I have an email into Friar Mike asking for a date to hold a bake sale in September or October. Jean's friend Dee wants to contribute to our bake sale.
In the meantime, we will be knitting and crocheting whatever we can for our next fundraiser come December 2015.
We, Newman's Knitting Ninjas, are "pumped" and ready for anything!
