The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Fall 2016

Summer break is coming to an end and we will begin our meetings once again on September 1. We will meet on Thursday evenings at 5:30 in the Newman Library every other week. November will have only one meeting because of the Thanksgiving Holiday on the 24th (Happy Thanksgiving everyone). This means we will have a very full schedule this fall. Please be sure to check this blog for an up-to-date list of our activities which include our bake sales in October and craft fundraiser in December for the Mission to Honduras / Missionaries for Marcos.

One of our priorities this fall is to hold successful bake sales on October 8 and 9 and December 10 and 11 along with our craft fundraiser in December. To get the word out about our sales, we hope to create some posters to display around Newman. We'll be working on these at our meetings. We'll need poster papers / display boards, and all other kinds of materials necessary. I'll be emailing you all with further details.

In the meantime as we relish the last days of summertime, I leave you with these words of wisdom from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ...

"Glorious indeed is the world of God around us, but more glorious the world of God within us."
