The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

World Wide Knit in Public Day

Saturday, June 13, is the day. We have about five days to think about where we want to be on this day and what project we will be working on. A park? A cafe? Maybe somewhere green and shaded? The Farmer's Market in Carborro? Will you meet me there?

Why would we want to do this and what might be the benefits?
  • We can learn from each other.
  • We can be inspired by each other.
  • We can support each other.
  • We can have fun together.
  • We can relieve stress by focusing on our knitting/crocheting.
  • We can laugh together.
  • We can just plain feel good about what we are doing and what we have accomplished.
Let's meet and spread our love of yarn around. Remember what Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (The Yarn Harlot) says:
"I will not make apologies for thoroughly enjoying the pleasant act of knitting.
You can call me crazy or obsessive, but I still say that this makes more sense than golf."
