The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

The Magnificent 9!

We did it - successfully raised over $500 for the Mission to Honduras.  Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures so I will try to describe to you in words exactly what our weekend looked like.

Hurricane Matthew decided to visit Chapel Hill on Saturday with rain! rain! more rain! and gusty winds.  No arguing with Mother Nature.  Wisely, we decided to forgo our Bake Sale on Saturday evening.  Matthew kept most everyone home (albeit some without power).  Two of the Magnificent 9 did venture out, however, and brought their home baked goodies over in the midst of the deluge we experienced here in Chapel Hill.  Thank you Judith Rizzo and Carol Green.

We woke Sunday morning to sunshine and blue skies!  Amazing.  We gathered at Newman early to set up for the bake sale.  When we finished there were three very full tables of delicious homemade breads, quiches, tarts, cookies, pies, etc., and we were ready for the onslaught of the post early Liturgy crowd looking for something to purchase and generously support our cause.  We almost sold out!  A hungry group of folks left us with not much for the 11:00 AM post liturgy crowd to choose from. When that crowd left, we were sold out!

A big "thank you" goes out to the Magnificent 9 who baked, helped set up and clean up, and sell: Judith Rizzo, Anne Cole, Marci Ollis, Jean Dube, Susan Hudson, Debbie Parker, Kim Kelleher, Carol Green, and I can't forget my husband Tom (the 10th "magnificent" one) who takes good care of me.  Father Justin gave a rousing announcement after Mass.  Marci stood outside the door of the Church building as folks were leaving with a tray of goodies to entice them to walk over to the Activity Center to support our cause.  It worked!  We also want to thank Cynthia Larrick who prepared coffee and juice, etc.

And "Thank You" to the Holy Spirit who really facilitates this ministry.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13
