The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

A Sweet & Savory Bake Sale Benefits the Alternative Spring Break Mission Trips

Juan Carlos and Students

When Juan Carlos asked our group if we would be willing to assist the students going on the Alternative Spring Break trips with another bake sale, we didn't hesitate to say "yes!" Several of our members contributed their culinary skills once again to fill the tables with both sweet and savory goodies. It was Lent after all and we wanted to be able to offer a variety of baked goods. Others from the greater Newman community contributed lots of baked goodies as well.

Gluten Free Options
We had quiche, gluten free options, banana breads, spiced pecans, cookies, brownies, pies and cakes, and so much more. We even had a fig tree for sale (which sold quickly). The tables were full. We helped the students with the set up and baking. They baked for two days before the sale and then they did the selling. Working together we were  successful, of course, because of the generous people of our Newman community who supported this fundraiser overwhelmingly. Net profit - over $1200! The weekend was fruitful and fun!
The fig tree has a new home!
