The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

Prayer Cloth

I stopped to see Paul yesterday afternoon to take a picture of the prayer cloth we made for a small faith group, which he affectionately called the "J-walkers", formed last Spring semester. The prayer cloth was the focus of the meetings the group held. They embellished it in many different ways, symbolizing their experiences along their journey.

Paul is planning on forming another small faith group next Spring semester and asked if our ministry might be able to make the group another prayer cloth. What an honor to participate in this group's journey! Hopefully, Mary Beth will have some guidelines for us after our first experience in creating something like this which will make it easier to put together. When she gives us those tips, we will be able to get started and make this happen.

Here is a picture of the prayer cloth complete with all its embellishments. Isn't it beautiful?
