The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

An End-of-the-Year Party

We had a wonderful evening on Tuesday with Dr. Lori Schweikert, a long-time member of Newman. She shared so much with us about her trip to Honduras working with Padre Marcos. The food was plentiful and the fellowship outstanding. Lori stirred the missionary spirit in us and we brainstormed afterwards with ways we could help those missionaries who give of themselves for a week every year to help Padre and the people he serves. Your suggestions and ideas are welcome.

We will continue to meet in May, but only three more times before we take a break for the summer. Let's plan on having a "Kick-Off" party in September, but before we do that, how about some comments here on the blog or through email or even face-to-face with thoughts, ideas, suggestions to work on for the rest of the year and beyond.
