The making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.

A prayer shawl or blanket embraces the recipient with the unconditional love of the Lord. It is a gift reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace as well as in celebration and joy. Prayer squares are given to those going on mission trips, working for social justice. Many blessings are prayed into every item we make.

WWKIP Day - June 14-22, 2014

World Wide Knit in Public Day is happening this up-coming week. There will be not just one day but an entire week devoted to spreading our love of yarn around and taking our hooks and needles and our yarn wherever we go and knit - knit - knit and crochet - crochet - crochet!

I am still not sure where I will be taking my needles and yarn, but I promise you, I will be knitting with pride at the local cafe or in the park or at the local yarn shop, maybe even at a meeting or when I am "praising the Lord." I might even finish one of the projects on my needles right now or maybe start something new.

So freak out your children, freak out your neighbors, freak out your spouse. As Stephanie Pearl-McPhee has said in At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much,  "I will continue to freak out my children by knitting in public. It's good for them.”

Happy Knit in Public Day!
